Air Doctor Air Purifier Review
One of my most favorite purchases I’ve made along my health journey has been an Air Doctor air purifier! I am not blind to the fact that these products are INVESTMENTS though, so I wanted to write this honest Air Doctor review with hopes of helping you decide if purchasing one is the right decision for your home!
I purchased my first Air Doctor air purifier in June 2022 when my husband and I moved to San Diego, CA. But why? One of the main reasons was due to their ability to filter out pollutants floating around the house (indoor air = not very clean on it’s own!). I feel SO much better knowing the air that we are breathing in, eating in, sleeping in, etc., is as clean as possible. The air purifiers remove pollutants such as dust, mold, pet dander (with two big dogs, this is huge😅), viruses, smoke (again, huge for living in CA), and more, which otherwise would end up hanging out in our lungs. 😧
Things to Consider When Buying an Air Purifier
Size of Space
A single air purifier cannot filter an entire home. Air purifiers come with a clean air delivery rate (CADR) and the CADR helps you understand the effectiveness of an air purifier in removing contaminants in a space of a certain size. According to CDC and EPA recommendations, you should use an air purifier that has a CADR that meets or exceeds the square footage of the space you want it to clean in your home.
Filter Capabilities
Some of the best filters out there = HEPA filters or UltraHEPA filters!
Automatic Sensors
Automatic sensors help the air purifier assess the air quality in your space on its own, and are able to automatically adjust the purifier to the correct level of purification. (When the Air Doctor feels like the air quality is sufficient enough in the space, it automatically slows down to conserve energy which is so nice!).
Maintenance Requirements
Regardless of the brand of your air purifier, maintenance is required! Regularly changing the filter helps the air purifiers work to their fullest potential.
Sound Levels
All air purifiers have sound — they run off of a fan! If a brand doesn’t let you know how high their air purifiers run on the decibel spectrum (many reach up to 80 decibels), I think it’s safe to assume it’s on the higher end (meaning it will be louder). (On the highest speed, the Air Doctor reaches a maximum level of 59 decibels!).
Manufacturer Reputation
What do people say about it? It’s helpful to pay attention to who has given the air purifiers a try, whether that’s influencers/media platforms or wellness experts testing out the quality of the product. Outside sources give great insight to brands — which is why I’m writing this review! 😍
Who/What is Air Doctor?
Air Doctor is a company that was founded in 2016 by Kate Williams and Peter Spiegel. The headquarters are in California, and it operates out of the overarching Ideal Living company.
As I said earlier, air purifiers are on the pricier side, but one reason I love Air Doctor is because they believe that everyone deserves access to clean air. This belief actually makes their products some of the more affordable air purifiers out there!
Why I Chose Air Doctor Over Other Brands
I chose Air Doctor because it’s one of the highest of quality air purifiers on the market, for the smallest price possible. It’s also the preferred air purifier from some of my favorite functional medicine doctors whom I trust: (Dr. Mark Hyman, Dr. Stephen Cabral + more!) Air doctor is also third party lab tested which helps me feel extra confident in the quality.
Pros and Cons of the Air Doctor
PROS:
The company itself has great customer service
The Auto mode I previously mentioned — turns on or off depending on the level of contaminants in the air (doesn’t use energy if it doesn’t need to)
Uses HEPA filtration (click here to read a blog post with more information on what this means)
High CADR rating — meaning it can clean more square footage in your home compared to other purifiers of similar sizes
Does NOT have wifi or smart features, which I prefer due to lower EMF’s
It’s QUIET!
Filters are easy to purchase and change
CONS
Others may not like that it doesn’t have wifi or smart features
Sometimes it gets a bit loud on the highest setting (but this just means it’s working as it’s supposed to to get the contaminants out of the air). This RARELY happens (from experience).
Deciding Which Size is Right for You
You’ll want to purchase an Air Doctor knowing which room you’re going to put it in so that you can buy the correct size!
There are four sizes to consider, and here’s a bit more info on what spaces they would each do best in:
AirDoctor 1000: This one would be best in smaller spaces (think offices, smaller bedrooms, larger closets)
AirDoctor 2000: Great if you use the room a lot, good for small/medium spaces (offices, medium sized bedrooms)
AirDoctor 3000: Good for larger areas (studios, bigger/master bedrooms, living areas, kitchen)
AirDoctor 5000: Good for larger living spaces, open concept rooms (garages, living areas, etc)
